SEBA Shelves Plan To Declare Results At Midnight

GUWAHATI: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has shelved its plan to announce the HSLC/AHM results 2019 at midnight.

SEBA Chairman Ramesh Chandra Jain told reporters on Saturday that even though the Board had planned to declare the results at midnight, it has decided to shelve the plan for the time being considering various pros and cons of the issue and public opinions. “Declaring results at midnight may not be conducive,” he said.

Jain said like the previous years the SEBA will announce the results at 11 am on a particular day in May this year.

The Sentinel recently carried out a news report that the SEBA’s plan to announce the results at midnight has not gone down well with many students, parents, and teachers.

“There is absolutely no need to announce results at midnight. It will cause more anxiety and we have to wake up till midnight to get results. Like the past years, the results must be announced at 11 am on a particular day this year too,” Pranab Jyoti Nath, an HSLC examinee said.

Teachers at different government as well as private schools have also opposed the plan. “Honestly speaking it will be a nuisance if the result is declared at midnight. I think no other education board in the country has the system of announcing results at midnight and the SEBA should not be an exception,” a teacher at government high school in the city said.

The SEBA has planned to announce the HSLC/AHM results in between May 15 to 20.

Altogether 3,42,702 students appeared for HSLC examination and 9,441 for Assam High Madarsa examination at 857 examination centres across the State.
