Sec 144 CrPC promulgated in Goalpara

Goalpara, July 27:  The District Magistrate (DM) of Goalpara, Ghashyam Dass, has promulgated with immediate effect Section 144 Cr.PC in the district for the next two months.

Under the provisions of the said Act, gathering of five or more than five persons, arranging of meetings, taking out rallies have been prohibited except for the purpose of Independence Day celebration. The order also prohibits carrying of lethal weapons, bombs and other fire arms likely to cause public damage.

The DM has also prohibited using of loud speakers except in religious places, wearing of camouflaged dresses in any district areas and forceful collection of money from vehicles and businessmen. This has been done with apprehension of serious breach of public peace and tranquility by some bandh-supporting organizations or extremists groups.
