Dibrugarh, Dec 30: In the wake of the recent hindrances posed to the Waste Disposal Magement Project being taken up in the Lekai area of the district and to maintain public peace and order, Dibrugarh DC Laya Madduri, has promulgated Section 144 of Civil Procedure Code in the Lekai, NCL Grant and Ghoramara areas of the district. As a result, the activities, including the assemblage of five or more people, taking out public processions, presentation of any kind, protest, raising slogan, strike, hunger strike and burning of effigies have been banned in these three areas. Violation of the order in any form would invite punishment under section 188 of the Indian Pel Code. The recent tumultuous happenings in Lekai against the Waste Disposal Magement Project had caused fincial losses as well as damage of public property. It is to thwart such activities and to uphold the law-and-order situation in these areas, that the restrictions have been imposed.
