From a Correspondent

DHUBRI, Jan 5: Second round of verification for rest of the mes which did not appear in the first list of NRC draft published on December 31 midnight, began in the district from Friday. Altogether 451 NRC verification teams moved to different locations today for door-to-door verification of the documents submitted earlier by the applicants for inclusion of  their mes in 2015. However, simmering resentment prevails among the people across Dhubri district whose mes were not published in the first list of NRC draft despite verification and cross checking of documents with origil ones by NRC teams.

Apart from a big chunk of general citizens, mes of many present and former legislators and Member of Parliaments, including former Deputy Speaker, Giasuddin Ahmed, former Dhubri MP Abdul Hamid, former legislators Prasanta Kumar Barua, Dhruba Kumar Sen, and present legislato, Ashok Kumar Singhi did not figure in the first list of NRC draft.

While briefing the media persons, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anta Lal Gyani said that since the documents were at the various stages of verification, the mes of many persons could not be included in first draft of NRC. “But once the verification process of documents of present legislators and former legislators, former MPs, and all the pending mes  are completed and cleared, the mes will appear in the  second list of the draft,” Gyani added.

Gyani informed that many documents were sent out to various States and also to various departments for verification, which were yet to reach them and that was consuming much time.  Addressing the media persons, Additiol Deputy Commissioner Sorman Ali Ahmed informed that there were 17,12,636 applicants, of which mes of 6,12,520 appeared in first draft published on the midnight of December 31. “So, verification of documents against the 11,00,116 mes are still pending, and works of which started from today. We are trying to complete the verification process as soon as possible,” Ahmed added.

When asked as when the entire process of verification was expected to be completed, Gyani informed that they did not receive instruction on the time frame for completion of the verification. “However, we are moving ahead with an objective to complete procession of verification at the earliest possible time. But publication of second list of draft depends on the instruction to be issued by the State Coorditor NRC,” Gyani further informed.
