Second Sarat Mahanta Memorial Lecture on June 18

SIVASAGAR, June 6: The second Sarat Mahanta Memorial lecture, being organized by Sibsagar Press Club, will be delivered by AASU chief adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya at Sivasagar tya Mandir on June 18. The lecture is in memory of noted educationist, jourlist and social activist Sarat Mahanta. Sarat Mahanta, who was a member of the Assam Human Rights Commission from 2003 to 2007, was also the Xatradhikar of the historic Sri Sri Chaliha Bareghar Xatra.  Sarat Mahanta started his illustrious career as a teacher in zira Higher Secondary School, Assam. In 1964, he joined Sibsagar College and served as a distinguished member of the faculty at the Department of History for more than three decades. A fearless jourlist, Mahanta helped build the foundations of Sibsagar Press Club. Mahanta was also conferred the first Mufti Abdur Rahim Memorial Award by Rangpur garik Mancha.
