Security beefed up at Dibrugarh for Durga Puja

Dibrugarh,  Sept 26: All necessary administrative steps has been initiated by District Administration  for celebration of Durga Puja in clean and peacefull  environment. Stating this at a media briefing held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday, DC Laya Madduri, disclosed that the District Administration has allowed permission to all total 298 puja committees in the district for performing puja. Amongst which 105 puja would be celebrated in Dibrugarh town itself while 53 in harkotiya ,18 in Tingkhong, 69 in Tengakhat , 27 in Chabua and 26 in Moran.

To ensure peace, tranquility  and avoid any untoward incidents during celebration of Durga Puja and Muhharam , the District Administration had convened several rounds of discussion with the members of Puja and Muhharam committees  and after threadbare discussion,  District Administration had  issued a number of directives, a must to abide by  them. She further stated that all precautiory measures have not been spared in order to maintain law and order situation under control during the period of two major celebrations of two communities. Madduri called upon all puja committees and Muhharam committees to extend full cooperation towards the District Administration’s efforts in peaceful celebration of the festivals.

Moreover, all puja committees in the district are being instructed for observance of puja keeping this years puja theme “ Swaccha Puja Seuj Puja”, the best three puja committee would be awarded with the prizes  on  forthcoming Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

The Superintendent of Police, Gautam Bora, participating in the media briefing, called upon the puja committees of the district to complete the immersion of Devi Durga on or before 6pm on Dashami. Necessary directives  to this effect has already been  served to each puja committees.  “Adequate police personnel will be put in service in some of the sensitive and strategically located puja mandap so that law and order situation, if arise, could be maintained effectively,” Bora added.  

He further stated that more than hundred security personnel, besides existing police force, are being put into duty in order to contain any law and order situation during four day celebration.  He also urged upon puja goers and others to strictly follow the traffic guidelines and other traffic instructions in order to avoid inconvenience to them in particular and public in general.  Superintendent of Police Gautam Bora further stated that security forces will keep strict vigilance on all anti social and anti tiol activities and had vowed to take stern action against wrongdoers and crimils.
