Security beefed up in Jorhat ahead of Vice-President's visit

JORHAT, April 10: Vice-President of India, Venkaiah idu will visit Jorhat to attend the golden jubilee function of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) at the Dr MC Das Memorial auditorium on April 17. Hectic preparation along with tight security arrangement is going on in Jorhat, said sources.

The Vice-President of India will land in a chartered plane at the Jorhat Indian Air Force Station and will straightaway go to the Circuit House and then attend the golden jubilee function along with Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi, State Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and MPs and MLAs.  The Vice-President is likely to visit the labs, experimental farms and will also interact with the faculty members, intertiol students, scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students as well as former faculty members of AAU, said Dr. Ranjit Saud, the Public Relation Officer of AAU, on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the Jorhat district administration and Jorhat Police have intensified vigil throughout the district. Night patrolling as well as river patrolling by special Assam Police battalion forces, along with sniffer dogs and metal detector personnel, have been arranged. Security checks in all exit and entry points have been intensified and section 144 has been imposed along the border belt within the district.
