Security cooperation with Russia important: Xi

Beijing, Sept 14: Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that it is urgent and important to carry out security cooperation with Russia, media reported.

Xi made the remarks here when he met Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Russian Security Council, attending the 12th round of bilateral strategic and security consultations and the third meeting of the Chi-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism, Xinhua news agency reported. Xi called on the two countries to give full play to the existing cooperation mechanism to further enhance security consultation and exchange.

“Both of us agreed that Chi and Russia need to strengthen mutual support on major issues and consolidate political mutual trust,” Xi told Patrushev, referring to his third meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin this year, in Chi’s Hangzhou city during the G20 summit this month.

Xi called for doing a good job in integrating Chi’s Belt and Road Initiative with Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union, and strengthening coordition in intertiol and regiol affairs.

No matter how the intertiol situation or the exterl environment changes, both countries need to work hard to realise their goals of development and revitalisation and to safeguard world peace and stability as well as intertiol equity and justice, he said.

Patrushev said Chi and Russia are important stable factors in intertiol affairs as both countries conduct close communication on major global and regiol security issues, as well as in multilateral organisations such as the United tions. (IANS)
