Security forces ’extorting’ money

IMPHAL, January 4: Police and other paramilitary forces are allegedly extorting money from the vehicles plying along the NH 2, at a 100 km stretch from Sekmai near Imphal to Mao, the shanty town which is located at Manipur’s border with galand.

The report comes on the heels of the allegation by the traders and businessmen at Dimapur, galand about the widespread extortions by some armed groups there.

Talking to reporters today in the office of the All Manipur Road Transporter Drivers and Motor Workers’ Union at MG Venue in Imphal, Kulamani, the secretary, said that the personnel of the state forces are extorting money round the clock. He appealed to the home minister Gaikhangam Gangmei and the director general of police Saheed Ahmed to stop the mece.

Kulamani said that there are seven so called checking points along this highway where the personnel are extorting illegal taxes.

He also said that the government has done nothing to complete the inter–state bus terminus at Khuman Lampak in Imphal after so many years.
