Security of railway passengers reviewed

JORHAT, July 13: At a high-level meeting held at the Police Guest House, Jorhat, on Thursday, the security of railway passengers was reviewed. The meeting, which was chaired by R. Chandranathan, (Special) Director General of Police, Assam, was attended by Dr. RP Mina, Additional Director of Police in-charge of Eastern Range, Vaishav Nimbalkar, SP of Jorhat, SPs of Sivasagar and Charaideo, and senior police officials. The security of railway passengers for both long and short distances trains that ply between Upper Assam zone was reviewed in the wake of the two sensational murders that took place within 12 hours under Tinsukia Railway division.

Body of Radha Kumari was recovered from the toilet of Dibrugarh-Kamakhya Express at Simoluguri on Tuesday while body of Lalima Devi (47) was recovered from the toilet of the compartment for the disabled of the Up Dibrugarh-Lalgarh Awadh-Assam Express when the train stopped at Mariani railway junction on Wednesday.

R. Chandranathan, along with Dr. RP Mina, Vaibhav Nimbalkar and other officials of the CRPF, Railways and even the Army accompanied the investigating team to both the stations on Wednesday midnight and on Thursday. Meanwhile, Chandranathan visited Mariani Railway Station and after attending a review meeting at the Police Guest House, Jorhat, visited Simoluguri Railway station along with senior police officials from Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat. The Railways will take steps to increase security for passengers of trains plying between Guwahati to Tinsukia as trains plying in this zone have become dens for anti-social elements and criminals, said sources.
