Security personnel guns down senior

SHILLONG, Feb 25:  In poll-bound Meghalaya, a security personnel detailed for election duty killed his senior and injured three other colleagues.

In the incident, which occurred at Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills district early on Sunday, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Arjun Deshwal shot dead an assistant commandant of the force Mukesh Tyagi at their camp. Arjun shot his victim with his service AK Rifle. In the ensuing scuffle one constable Joginder Kumar received bullet injury in his arm and was sent to the North East Indira Gandhi Regiol Institute Health and Medical Science. Two other personnel-Inspector Pradeep Mee and Sub-Inspector Om Prakash Yadav received minor injuries. A senior officer of the CRPF informed this correspondent that the poll process will not be affected by this incident.

Deshwal was arrested and his service rifle also seized. After prelimiry investigation and medical examition which was carried out on the accused in Mawkyrwat, he was taken to Shillong.
