Security scerio in Meghalaya has improved significantly: CRPF chief

SHILLONG, Feb 21:  The Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) K Durga Prasad virtually gave a thumps up to his force in aiding the State police in all formats.

There are multiple battalions of the CRPF posted in the North Eastern states, each are being called to assist the State police.

Speaking about the prevailing situation in the Northeast general and Meghalaya in particular, Prasad said, “It is a matter of great satisfaction that violence in the State has come down significantly and situation is improving day by day.”

He was all praise for the people of Meghalaya for ‘rejecting violence and embracing peace’.

The DG CRPF spoke attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for Administrative Block and Officers Mess of the

Shillong based CRPF station and Eastern Sector Headquarters at Bishop Cotton Road Shillong.

The CRPF chief who was on a two-day official visit to the city further said that  CRPF officers and men have been continuously striving hard to serve the people of Northeast region.

“Many of our brave officers and men laid down their lives and made supreme sacrifice while fighting against insurgents and anti-tiol elements for establishing peace in the region. Our troops are also indebted to the people for the love and affection showered on them.”

CRPF is a leading counter insurgency Force of the Country and is mandated with the task of ensuring interl security of the tion by providing vital support to State Police forces to fight insurgency. In addition to that CRPF is also playing very significant role in dealing with law and order problems, ensuring free and fair elections and helping the people during tural calamities through rescue and relief work.
