DIBRUGARH, Aug 11: The district administration has made all arrangement to observe Independence Day in the district in a befitting manner despite tip-off of hidden threat of militants. India will be celebrating its 70th Independence Day on August 15 this year.
The celebration will be held here at Chowkidinghee playground. The day’s programme will be started with airing of patriotic songs through public announcement system in the morning which will be followed by prabhat pheri. The chairman of Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) will garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Tha Chariali while the ADC will do so at Circuit House. The statue of Swahid Kushal Konwar at Chowkidinghee will be garlanded by the chairman of Dibrugarh Development Authority.
After swahid tarpan, the tiol flag will be hoisted at 9 am by the chief guest. However, the time for unfurling the tricolour by individuals in their residence is 7 am while educatiol institutions, government departments and business establishments will have to do it half an hour later.
The chief guest will take the salute of the march past and deliver his speech. It will be followed by drills, performance of the Army band and cultural programmes.
The district administration has also arranged for the distribution of fruits and sweets among the inmates of Dibrugarh Central Jail and patients of Assam Medical College. To mark the occasion, a quiz competition will be held among students at District Library Auditorium. In the afternoon, the DC XI will play against DDSA XI in a friendly football match.
The district administration has requested all the citizens as well as the government and non-government offices to lit up their respective premises in the evening.
Meanwhile, the police administration has stepped up the strict vigil in all the strategic points in order to bring the entire area under the domain of police administration.
