Security tightened to thwart HNLC shutdown call

Shillong, April 21: In view of the 12-hour shutdown on Wednesday called by the proscribed HNLC, the State government has made elaborate security arrangements.

According to the State government, elaborate security arrangements have been made in cities and towns and along all highways to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Even educatiol institutions will also be covered by adequate security force.

The State government has termed the bandh call of the HNLC as an “irresponsible act”. The government has also encouraged all private and public transport operators to ply their vehicles normally and all commercial establishments to function normally.

The government also appealed to the citizens of the State to firmly denounce such anti-social acts and assist the law enforcing machinery by going about their normal day to day activities. “For the benefit of all citizens, especially those who depend on such activities for their basic livelihood, and thus as responsible citizens to join the Government in ensuring a normal, free and peaceful day,” the State government said. Meanwhile, the State government has asked its employees to attend office even as it warned strict action against uuthorised absence.   Further, the East Khasi Hills district administration has informed that buses have been arranged for the public to attend their respective offices on Wednesday.
