Seeking better police–public relations, Jorhat Police launches website

JORHAT, January 9: The new domain of Jorhat Police, www.jorhatpolice.org, was officially launched by DIG Eastern Range Sailen Gogoi at a press meet organized at the SP’s office on Friday. This is the first website launch of Upper Assam having a detailed graph of services like an online map linked to Google showing different police stations and outposts in far–flung areas of the district, besides containing the mes of every officer in charge of the police stations, contact numbers, photo and crime statistics.

Addressing media persons, SP Amanjeet Kaur said, “We have launched the website for the convenience of the people of Jorhat. Through the use of this website anyone having information about any illegal activity can send a tip–off message which will be directly monitored by me or by my appointed deputies. The sender can chose to remain anonymous or identify himself with me and phone number. Also one can file an online complaint. Besides, the website is also packed with features like tent verification form which can either be submitted online or downloaded for a hard copy, missing people’s photographs, repeat offenders photo, traffic map, road safety guidelines, Accident data, Citizens Advisory, list of NGO’s, Acts and Amendments, NBFC (Non Banking Fincial Companies) list, data of registered – disposed cases, Police Control Room number and contact details of the entire police top brass. Though the website is initially in the scent stage, after 2–3 months the full website will be hosted by NIC.”

DIG Eastern Range Sailen Gogoi lauded the efforts of the SP and welcomed the new initiative basically aimed at helping the police to get closer to the people. Also present at the launch were Additiol SP (HQ) Ripul Das, Additiol SP(S) Santanu Dutta and OC’s of all eight police stations of Jorhat.
