Seizures and arrests along Bangladesh border

Shillong, June 24: On June 21, alert BSF troops deployed in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya apprehended one Bangladeshi smuggler - Sudarshan Rechil (50) of Salwaghat in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh- along with a huge quantity of betel nuts while he was trying to exfiltrate from Indian territory to Bangladesh. In an another incident on the same day, troops of 132 Bn BSF deployed at Baghmara, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, seized 3,070 bamboos, 24,450 kgs of coal, 200.680 cft of wooden logs while being smuggled out to Bangladesh through Simsang river.  After the incessant rainfall in Meghalaya, the increased water level in the rivers has made smugglers to attempt their nefarious activities through the riverine routes. Besides above, BSF troops also seized 75 cattle, 91.69 cft wooden logs, 641 bottles of liquor, eight boats and other contraband items, worth  over Rs. 19 lakh while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the Meghalaya border during the last week.
