Goalpara, May 6: A seminar on the life and musical works of Padmashree Pratima Baruah Pandey will be held in Goalpara on Saturday by Sangskritik Jagaran Mancha. Scheduled to be held at the conference hall of the Goalpara Sahitya Sabha at Lachitnagar, the seminar will focus on the unknown facts of this legend by the persons who were associated with her during her lifetime.
“We have already received confirmation of participation from at least two of the family members of Pratima ji and they are optimistic about the seminar,” remarked Sandeep Chamaria, one of the conveners. “We are not happy at the present dilapidated condition of the Gauripur zamindar palace where this queen of Goalparia folk music legend spent a major part of her life. We wish to take up its preservation issue with the government and hope that it is declared a heritage site,” said Chamaria. On Sunday, the office bearers of Sangskritik Jagaran Manch addressed the media at the office of the district journalist forum. Uday Sankar Dey, noted dramatist, and Akhim Nath, singer, were also present.
