Semir held on challenges and future of rural libraries in Assam

GAURISAGAR, February 1: Phulpanichiga Anchalik Puthibhoral Aru Yuva Kendra, a social cultural organization of  greater Jhanji area and an affiliated body under Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibhoral Santha (SAGPS), organized a semir  on ‘Hopes, Challenge and  Future of Rural Libraries in Assam’ to mark the Library Week launched by SAGPS on Sunday in the premises of Jhanji Silpa ME School.

The semir was conducted by Dr Birinchi Kumar Borah, Associated Professor, Jhanji Hem th Sarma College, Department of Sociology. Addressing the semir as an appointed speaker Rajendra Mohan Debasarmah, Librarian of zira College said that without government help  the rural library cannot go ahead in course of time. He also said that without implementation of of Library Act, the future of rural libraries in Assam was dark. Debasarmah urged upon the tiol organizations and political parties to mount pressure on the government to ect the Library Act in Assam. He appealed to the student community to dote a book in the respective rural libraries on their birthday instead of cutting birthday cake.

 In the semir Dhrubajyoti Borthakur and Himadrijyoti Dutta, organizing secretary and vice president of SAGPS respectively were present as guests of honour. In his speech Dutta  rrated the activities of SAGPS. The programme started with a borgeet performed by  Runu Gohain Borah, Headmistress ,Jhanji Silpa ME School. Earlier Ashim Dutta, president, Phulpanichiga Anchalik Puthibhoral Aru Yuva Kendra welcomed the guests and gathering and offered vote of thanks to all.
