Semir held to discuss development plan of BSNL

Tezpur, April 4:Tezpurtelecom district caters to telecom services in six revenue districts of Assam, mely Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji having an east-west spread of about 600 km from Joi to Dumnichowki on the northern bank of river Bramhputra. There are 82 telephone exchanges for providing landline and broadband services in addition to Wimax BTSs to provide internet connectivity to remote areas of these six districts.

Recently a semir-cum-interaction session was organized in the office of General Mager, BSNL, Tezpurto dissemite the idea and methodology of the plan amongst different stake holders. JPYadav from TAI, RaDey from ABITA, Zone-III, MP Singh from Darrang Tea Estate, and PKKakoti, Additiol Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur attended the semir along with other officials from different tea gardens and officers of Tezpur Telecom District.

In the context of development plan and expansion of telecom services in these districts, BSNL, Tezpur SSA is in the process of completion of lying of about 900 km of optical fibre cable covering 20 block headquarters and 242 gram panchayats (including 20 block headquarters) to extend optical fibre connectivity to rural population for six revenue districts of Assam. This is being executed as a part of the prestigious tiol Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) Project of the Government of India.
