Semir on discourses in English literature held

GAURISAGAR, Feb 27: Jhanji Hem th Sarmah College organized a two-day long tiol level semir on ‘(Re) reading of the discourses in the contemporary Indian English Literature’ sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, in collaboration with Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA), Jhanji HNS College unit recently at the college auditorium.
The programme started with lighting of earthen lamp by Rajani Kanta Goswami, former Principal of the college. Thereafter, an iugural function was held. Dr. Manjit Gogoi, Principal of the college chaired it. In the iugural function, Dr. Dipendu Das, Professor and Head of the Department of English, Assam University, Silchar gave the key-note address. Dr. Anil Kumar Gogoi, former Principal of the college, unveiled the souvenir-cum-abstract volume.
In the iugural function Dr. Saugata Kumar th, Assistant Professor of the Department of English, Assam University, Silchar and Sagidul Haque Borbora, president, ACTA, Jhanji HNS college unit, were also present as guests of honour.
During two days, the sub-themes of the semir like cultural discourses in contemporary Indian English Literature, critical discourses in contemporary Indian English Literature, voices and visions of women writers in contemporary Indian English Literature, regiol and literary debates in contemporary Indian English Literature, political dimensions of contemporary Indian writings in English and Dalit literary discourses in contemporary Indian English Literature were broadly discussed. Many teachers, research scholars and students took part in the semir.
