Semir on 'Emerging trends in IT' held at NIT Silchar

SILCHAR, Aug 30: A three-day tiol semir and workshop, from August 25 to August 27, on “Emerging Trends in Information Technology in University Magement” organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and in collaboration with tiol Institute of Technology, Silchar, was held in the premises of premier engineering institute’s computer centre complex. Prof. A K Sinha, Dean, Academics of NIT Silchar, delivered the welcome address.

 Speaking at the valedictory session of the three-day tiol semir and workshop, Prof. Somth Dasgupta, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, said that role of information technology has been significant in respect of the rights of academic establishments from the stage of admission procedure to examitions. However, there is reluctance among a certain section in adapting to the IT based operations which he believes is due to the fear of being caught for wrong practices. He pointed out that the government is playing a very proactive role in dissemiting the benefits of technology by promoting programmes like the Digital India Week. Dasgupta added to say that the admissions for the 2015-16 session was being done in online mode.

 Dr. Amarendra Pani, Director In-Charge, research division of AIU, New Delhi, said that in the past few years, there has been a hitherto unforeseen and metamorphic change in higher education system in the country. Now by using IT, students themselves are making the schedules and the institutes are complying with it, unlike the earlier concept of institutes preparing the examition programmes for them. He cautioned that the fast evolving process should be carefully monitored to avoid its pitfalls.

 Prof. N B Biswas, Dean, Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay School of Educatiol Science, Assam University, said that machines and technology will help us to solve and provide solutions to complex problems faced by mankind today. By using IT services, the authorities can keep a strong vigil on anti social activities like ragging, eve-teasing and drug abuse among others in academic institutions. During valedictory session, the release of Library 2.0 version was also held.
