Semir on evolving public relations held at Tezpur University

GUWAHATI, APR 26: About 100 students drawn from the Department of Jourlism & Mass Communication, Tezpur University and Metropolis Institute of Media Studies, Guwahati took part in a semir on ‘Evolving Public Relations’ held at the auditorium of JMC Department, Tezpur University on Saturday. This was organised by Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) Guwahati Chapter in collaboration with the Department of JMC, Tezpur University as an extended programme of the tiol Public Relations Day held earlier on Apr 21, stated a press release.

Welcoming the participants, Madhuchanda Adhikari, Chairperson PRSI read out a message from Ajit Pathak, tiol President, PRSI which dealt with the theme of this year’s Public Relations Day ‘Better PR for effective CSR.’ Adding useful anecdotes from her long career as the Corporate Communication Mager at NRL, Adhikari also made a power point presentation on ‘Contours of Corporate Communications.’

Others who deliberated at the semir were Hamad Berlashker (Leadership and Communication), Juhi P Pathak (Public Relations and Ethics), Ruma Chakravarty (New Age PR), Chandrakala Choudhury (Media and PR), Suchira ndi Purkayastha (Changing Face of CSR), and Nurul I Laskar (Corporate Gift Giving).

Juhi P Pathak handed over a copy of her book ‘Media Laws & Ethics’ to Dr Abhijit Bora, HoD, Department of JMC, Tezpur University for the benefit of students there. Hamad Berlashker, VicePresident, PRSI also gave away a copy of the jourl ‘Seven Sisters’ to Dr Bora.

It may be mentioned that ‘Seven Sisters’ was adjudged as the ‘Best PR Jourl in the Country’ at the tiol PRSI Annual Conference held at Jaipur in December, 2014. Dr P Anbarasan and Dr Joya Chakraborty from Tezpur University and Aniruddha Laskar from Metropolis Institute of Media Studies Guwahati took active part in the semir.

At the interaction that followed the semir, most of the questions coming from the students related to employment opportunities in the PR sector, facilities for internship of PR students and different aspects of crisis magement.
