Semir on saving behavior at Margherita College

Margherita, Oct 7: A two-day tiol semir on “Dymics of Saving Behavior in India and Development” was held at Margherita College on October 5 and 6. The semir was sponsored by UGC and ICSSR. A K Gupta Director of ICSSR, New Delhi delivered the iugural speech while Professor M P Bezbaruah of Guwahati University delivered the keynote address. The iugural session was chaired by Dr Budhin Gogoi, Principal of Margherita College where a large number of resource persons including Professor M K Dutta of IITG and Dr B Maitra of Gour Banga University. Altogether 45 research papers on different themes were presented by 60 researchers compromising faculties from Colleges, Universities and research Scholars from Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Assam University and NEHU.

The semir highlighted high household savings as an important ingredient of India’s relatively stable economic growth ever after global meltdown in 2008. It is emphasized that adequate infrastructure.

The semir also expressed concern over non-availability of reliable data on savings at district, state and regiol level and for which it urged the RBI to make the necessary data easily available to research scholars, academicians and policy makers. The semir was anchored by Dr G Purkayastha and Jyoti Gogoi and B P Chetry offered vote of thanks.
