Semir on violence against woman held

BONGAIGAON, Nov 25: Former Education Minister and President of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union (NFRMU) today said that globally 47 per cent of women are murdered by partner or family member.

Speaking at a programme titled ‘Elimition of Violence against Woman’ organized by Hind Mazdoor Sabha and NFRMU Woman Wing, Barman said, “Women represent 55 per cent of victims of forced labour and 98 per cent are victim of sexual exploitation.

“Globally, an estimated 200 million women and girls have undergone FGM/C in 30 countries and 700 million were married as children,” he said.

Along with the other part of world, this day had been observed in Bongaigaon by HMS and NFRMU which started with a rally taken out in Bongaigaon town.

After the rally, a semir was held in Bongaigaon Railway institute premises which was attended by several dignitaries including, Ramani Barman, Ashish Biswas, Joint General Secretary of NFRMU, Chusen Hazarika, AGS, NFRMU, Gobinda Biswas, president HMS, Bongaigaon district  and Sister Nisa and many other. The meeting was presided over by Nilima Biswas, president of Railway Women’s Association, Bongaigaon and conducted by Minu Bonia, secretary, Woman’s wing, NFRMU.
