Seng Khasi Kmie to review Seng Khasi Mawsynram proposal

SHILLONG, April 11: The Seng Khasi Kmie has decided to examine the request made by the Seng Khasi Mawsynram to the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) to remove a book titled ‘Dienjat ki Longshwa’ from its syllabus for allegedly showing in poor light the culture and beliefs of the Khasis.

Speaking at the sideline of an event, Bantei Rumnong, President Seng Khasi (Kmie) said, “We will soon forward the request made by the Seng Khasi Mawsynram to the Literary Committee of the Seng Khasi to review some of the chapters which is incorporated in the book.”

In his observation he said, “I have also studied some of the chapters of the book and I feel education should be secular, so certain chapters which may come into conflict with religion should not be introduce.

Asked if the Seng Khasi Kmie will support the moved made by the Seng Khasi Mawsynram, he said, “The initiative has been taken by Mawsynram so we will see what kind of support we can give them after the review committee has finished examining their request.”

It may be reminded that the Seng Khasi Mawsynram had filed a complaint to the Chairman of MBOSE citing that the government is bidding to spread Christianity among the students who also practice traditiol religion.

The Seng Khasi Mawsynram had also demanded the removal of some chapters (4, 12, 14, 17, 21, 24, 25, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 53) from the book, if the government is uble to remove the book completely.
