FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, April 19: Former Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) legislator of Titabor Assembly constituency Hemanta Kalita along with more than 150 supporters today formally joined the BJP in presence of the State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya and Jorhat MP Kamakya Prasad Tasa in  a meeting held at Jorhat district library auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion , Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya said that the relevance of regiolism is not over but as a regiol party the AGP has failed to fulfill the expectation of the people of the State.

“The regiolism still has its relevance but the AGP has completely failed to deliver as a regiol force,” Bhattacharya said.

Delivering speech in the meeting , which was presided over by Jorhat District BJP president Kamakhya Das, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa welcomed Kalita to BJP.

Earlier on Saturday , Kalita told reporters that  he had taken a good decision.

“The AGP has given me a lot. Besides being MLA for a term in Titabor since 2006 I was member of the party’s steering committee as well as the spokesperson. I have nothing against the AGP. The new perspective of the last two and half years has invited me to join BJP,” Kalita had pointed out.
