Kokrajhar, February 27:  Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) secretary Noren CH Roy has announced his decision to quit from the post, dealing a major blow to the Bodo party ahead of the BTC elections.

The rumblings in the BPF were sparked off following the declaration of candidates for the ensuing BTC elections slated for the first week of April next.

In a press conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club today, Niren Roy said, “I have decided to quit from the secretary portfolio of the BPF for the greater interest of the community.”

“I have been involved in various party activities as a BPF secretary since the last ten years,” Roy said. “The All BTAD Koch-Rajbonshi Sanmiloni (ABTADKRS) had urged BPF president Hagrama Mohilary to nomite two candidates from the Koch-Rajbongshi community for Turibari and Fakiragram constituencies for the greater interest of the community.”

Roy rued that the demand was ignored by the BPF high command.

The BPF has declared only 39 candidates so far. Eleven other candidates would be declared on February 28 next.
