Senior citizen arrested for sexually abusing 13-year-old girl

BARPETA, March 15: Police arrested a 65-year-old man on charges of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at Gandhi here today.  Police said that the accused Gopal Das sexually abused the girl at her rented house and let her go after threatening her not to reveal the incident to anyone. The girl reached home crying and rrated the ordeal to her elder sister who raised hue and cry. The victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Barpeta police. The police booked the senior citizen under Section 8 (punishment for sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Harassment Act (Pocso) and arrested him. The villagers, who rescued the baby, thrashed the man before handing him over to the police.  Das was allegedly in an inebriated condition when he committed the crime.
