Senior citizens' body decries road blockades

Doomdooma, Sept 11: The senior citizens’ association of Tinsukia district decried the road blockade programmes resorted to by various organizations all of a sudden on tiol highways due to which they have to face immense difficulties. The association condemned the iction of the government and  the administration to stop this undemocratic practice of holding the general public to ransom. The meeting, which was held at Sadiya Government Higher Secondary School with president Thaneswar Das in the chair, also expressed its displeasure at not setting up of the display signboard of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu on either side of the Dhola. The meeting got under way with hoisting of the association’s flag by president Thaneswar Das while vice-president Radhakanta Gogoi lit the ceremonial lamp. The secretarial report of the association was read out by the secretary, Ramesh Goswami. The working president of Assam Senior Citizens Association, Mohan Chandra Buragohain, Health secretary Dr Harirayan Barkataki, member Atul Sharma, Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha president Prabin Bora, and district advisor Lalit Bora also attended the meeting among others. Dr Harirayan Barkataki delivered a lecture on the health of senior citizens. The meeting resolved to observe October 1 as World Senior Citizens Day under the auspices of the Tinsukia district committee.
