SHILLONG, Oct 21: The Sawmer Women Organization on Saturday presented literary awards to students excelling in various exams besides felicitating the senior citizen and person with disability at Sunny Side, Upper Shillong here.
During the felicitating programme the women organization also presented a short skit on traditiol dress worn by the women folks besides a few other activities.
Speaking at the programme, local MLA and Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdooh, lauded the initiative undertaken by the women organization in distributing aid especially to the senior citizen and differently-abled persons.
“There are many differently abled persons who have won Gold medals in various tiol and intertiol competitions be it in athletic or any other sporting activities,” he said.
Urging the students who had excelled in various SSLC exams to continue working hard in their studies, he said, “The state of Meghalaya still requires a plenty of qualified people to take part in development activities.”
He further informed that the present Congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is in the process of constructing an engineering college, medical college beside other important infrastructures.
