Senior journalist passes away

GAURISAGAR, June 18: Manik Saikia, a resident of Jhanji-Hahchara village in Jorhat district, proprietor of Saikia Book Stall, senior journalist and founder president of Hahchara Press Club passed away on Saturday due to cardiac arrest. He was 60. He was immediately admitted to Teok First Referral Unit (FRU) but doctors declared him as dead. People from various walks of life thronged his Jhanji Hahchara residence to pay homage to the senior journalist. He was actively associated with Hahchara Puberun Krishti Samaj, Hahchara Raax Mahutsav Udjapan Samiti, Hahchara Nibanuwa Santha and other institutions. Saikia’s demise has been widely condoled. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives.
