Senior tiol Kurash begins today

GUWAHATI, March 27: Senior tiol Kurash Championship will kick off in the city tomorrow. The tourment will be held at the Karmavir bin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium at the Sarusajai Sports complex.

Adressing the media, the president of the organizing committee Jatin Barchetia today said around 200 players from the 22 states will participate in the 2-day meet in different weight categories. He today also disclose the different weight categories of the meet which are-men’s:   below 50, 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, 100,  above 100 kg and  Women’s: below 44, 48, 52, 57, 63, 70, 78, above 78. Dibakar Lahan, the General Secretary of the Kurashi Association of Assam and its treasurer Lila Phukan were also present in the media briefing.

It may be mentioned here that Kurash is one of the oldest form of martial arts and is the mixture of judo and wrestling. The game is already included in the next Asian Games which is scheduled to be held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia in 2018.
