Senior weightlifters should work hard: Kunjarani

GUWAHATI, Jan 21: Veteran weightlifter Kunjarani Devi today advised the senior weightlifters of the country to work hard if they want to win medals from the different intertiol meets. Talking to The sentinel at the side line of the iugural function of the khelo India tiol level Sports Competition, the Asian Games medal winners today said, “We have talents in this game. But it’s not sufficient to get success in senior level. You need hard work with specific planning. So I want to give only one message to senior weightlifters of the country - there is no other altertive if any one targets medal from intertiol field, only hard work is the key to success. ”

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Rat award winner also advised the sports organizers to provide the facilities to the young and talented weightlifters. “Indian government has taken a series of steps to improve the standard of sports in the country. Our sports organizers should coordite with the government and take the responsibility to introduce those facilities to the athletes.”

Meanwhile Kunjarani Devi today wished good luck to former world champion boxer L Sarita Devi who will become the first ever female boxer from India to step into the world of professiol boxing. She will make her professiol debut against Zsofia Bedo of Hungary in the Indian Boxing Council’s January 29 fight which is scheduled to be held in Imphal. Describing Sarita Devi’s decision a courageous Kunjarani said,“ She is a good fighter. Every Indian will be behind her when she will go to make debut in professiol boxing. I wish him good luck.”
