Sensatiol 'murder' of tea tribe wage earners rocks Udalguri, MCLA arrested

TANGLA, June 16: In yet another brutal incident of assault and torture on innocent people accused of theft, two wage earners of the tea tribe community were allegedly brutally assaulted and tortured leading to the death of duo on the night of June 15 at AASAA (All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam) office of Bhutiachang TE  in Udalguri .The wage earners were reportedly working in the house of MCLA of 33 no. Noi Serfang constituency of BTC, Suresh Tanti since the past couple of days.

On the night of June 7, a theft took place at Suresh Tanti’s house and in suspicion of the theft, the MCLA without lodging any FIR of the theft, charged the wage earners and in turn handed them over to AASAA activists of Bhutiachang who allegedly tortured and killed them later.

The deceased wage earners have been identified as Kaya Bhakta (45) and So Pater (35). The bodies bore multiple injury marks.

An FIR in these regard has been lodged by the family members of the victim stating that on charge of theft of Rs 20 lakh in the MCLA’s house, the deceased were brutally assaulted by the activists of All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) under the guidance of the MCLA for the theft case in the latter’s residence.

A youth med Azad Mahato (23) is another victim who was assaulted by the AASAA activists but was released later and he is eye-witness to the torture. The FIR med five AASAA activists involved in the murder - Sanjoy Anthony, Sunil Thakur, Kanchan Chauhan, Suresh Chauhan and Ajay Chauhan. The FIR also mentioned Suresh Tanti, MCLA of 33 No. Noi Serfang constituency, as one of the accused.

Meanwhile, sensing the sensitivity of the matter, Rakesh Roshan, Superintendent of Police of Udalguri, and Pranjal Borah, SDPO Bhergaon, rushed the spot and took stock of the situation.

SP Roshan arrested MCLA Suresh Tanti and said, “We will take necessary action. People need to maintain law and order. We will not spare anyone involved.  We will arrest them at the earliest.”

Adivasi Development Council member Paul Toppo said, “We demand immediate arrest of the accused but people should maintain law and order.”

ATTSA BTC regiol president Amit Tanti and ATTSA Udalguri district vice-president Robertson Tanti said, “The accused should be bbed and sent to jail and let the law take its course.”

The Panery PS has registered case vide 40/16 and IPC 120B/143/109/325/302/34. The MCLA was earlier also accused of submitting fake HSLC and HS pass certificate while filing nomition.
