Sensation prevails in Dhekiajuli over assault on youth leader

Tezpur, Sept 4: Sensation prevailed on Sunday at Dhekiajuli under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district following an incident of assault on Shani Doimari, a former member of Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad for stopping three local youth from uriting on the altar of Dhekiajuli AASU martyrs established in the heart of town.
According to the sources, on Sunday at around 10 pm, Shani Doimari saw three youth uriting on the altar of the martyrs of Dhekuajuli AASU near Peramount Hotel. Doimari asked them not to do so in the future. Instead of accepting their fault, the youths allegedly started arguing. When it appeared to Doimari that the situation was going out of hand, he called up members of AASU and Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad. At that point, the three youth started assaulting Doimari, injuring him in the process. Later, on reaching the spot, members of AASU and Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad  rescued Doimari and proceeded to the police station where they filed a complaint and then took Doimari to the hospital for treatment, sources said.  
On other hand, police maged to arrest the three youth under non-bailable warrant. They have been identified as Partha Pratim Gope (28), resident of Dhekiajuli Ward No.8, Bapan Mandal (19) of Dhekiajuli Ward No.4 and Tinku Deb (20) of Thelamara.
Tension prevailed in Dhekiajuli area following the incident of assault and various associations and organizations, including AASU, Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad, AASA, ATTSA, Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation and Dhekiajuli Press Club condemned the incident and demanded punishment for the three youths.  Eight youth associations of Dhekiajuli area held a protest meeting and said that the miscreants had made a deliberate attempt to insult the AASU martyrs. “Some unscrupulous persons for their vested interest are trying to give the incident a commul colour but we will never allow an unpleasant situation in the area. The guilty persons will only be punished for their anti-social deed, they may be from any community. We urge the people to be alert and to work collectively for the greater interest of the society,” members of Dhekiajuli AASU and Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad said.
