Sensitization programme held on Joint Liability Group

GAURISAGAR, December 9 : Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sivasagar,  organized a day-long sensitization programme on Tuesday at  the premises of MC Club, zira, in association with BARD with a view to discuss mainly the concept of Joint Liability Group (JLG), wherein the concept, modalities of formation and advantages of formation of JLG were discussed.

Lakheswar Mahanta, District Development Mager, BARD lauded the efforts of KVK, Sivasagar for organizing the programme and urged upon the farmers to start the formation of JLGs, Farmer Clubs and Farmer Federations. In his address, Dr. Phuleswar th, Programme Coorditor, KVK, Sivasagar discussed in detail the concept and method of formation of JLG with some success stories from around the country. Dr Jagadish Barman, Sub-Divisiol Veteriry Officer, citing the example of the Sundarpukhuri Milk Cooperative Society since its genesis, explained in detail how perseverance pays dividends.

In the programme, Atul Das, Branch Mager, SBI, zira, Atul Langthasa, Branch Mager, Cara Bank and M. Setty, Lead District Mager, Sivasagar district were also present and deliberations stressed on the importance of JLGs for developing agriculture and allied sectors. Trishlee Saikia and Rupjyoti Borah, Subject Matter Specialists of KVK, Sivasagar also spoke on how KVK could play a guiding role in selecting an enterprise and also how youths could be retained and attracted to take up agriculture as a vocation.

A total of 45 participants covering the leading NGOs and farmer clubs of the district were present in the programme. Later the resource persons also answered different queries of the participants in the short interaction programme that followed.
