Sensitize people about NPR: NGOs

SHILLONG, Nov 24: A delegation of 13 NGOs today demanded that there should be proper awareness programme first for the people before implementing the tiol Population Register (NPR) in the state. Opposing the implementation of NPR in the state without verifying the genuineness of the citizens, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said, “The rampant enrolment of people without proper verification will be a danger for indigenous people as the doubtful people might get enrolled in the NPR.” He said that the NGOs have demanded that the government should first create awareness for the people so they can understand what the NPR is. “We have asked the state government to take into confidence of headmen while implementing the NPR especially in those localities where there are mixed population of different communities,” he said.
