Sepoy Mutiny War Memorial iugurated in Golaghat

Golaghat, February 17: The Sepoy Mutiny in 1857 was remarkable for the people of Assam in general and Golaghat in particular as the flames of the mutiny in the north-eastern region first started at Nogora in Golaghat, for which the place is recognized as veerbhumi or the land of the brave.

Then local people came forward to set up a war memorial where the camp of sepoys had been, which is near Nogora High School. PWD Minister Ajanta Neog on Wednesday iugurated the Sepoy Mutiny War Memorial and remembered the great warriors of the time and their contribution in the freedom struggle. The memorial has been built with an aid of Rs 5 lakh from the MLA fund.

In the programme, renowned writer Dr Ajit Baruah , GMB chairman Ghanshyam Barhoi and other officials were present.
