Sericulture exhibition-cum-demonstration held

TANGLA, Feb 14: A mini sericulture exhibition-cum-demonstration was held at Bhergaon in Udalguri recently.  The programme was organized jointly by Directorate of Sericulture BTC and Central Silk Board. The aim of the event was to give special emphasis on sericulture development in the area and to provide part-time employment to farmers and people related with the sector.

Nerson Boro, Deputy Speaker of BTC, formally iugurated the sericulture exhibition-cum-demonstration. Nearly 200 sericulture farmers of Bhergaon subdivision, mostly women, attended the open session which was presided over by Jogesh Deuri, Director of Sericulture, BTC.   Sadha Hojai, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, attended the open session as distinguished guest. While speaking on the occasion, she remarked that sericulture farming would help the villagers to become self-reliant as well as help conservation of biodiversity in the subdivision.

Model sericulture farmers of the subdivision, mely Mahima Kachari, Mahi Ram Deka and Mai Kachari were felicitated for doing commendable work in the field. All of them were accorded with citation and a spray machine each. Anjan Chakravorty, Superintendent of Bhergaon Sericulture Farm; Mukul Deka and BK Basumatari, both extension officers, spoke on the need for sericulture development. Dhrubajyoti Rabha of the SBI, Bhergaon branch spoke on cashless transaction among villagers.
