Series of events mark 54th Foundation Day of Guwahati Refinery

GUWAHATI, Jan 1: The 54th foundation day of Guwahati Refinery was observed with due fervour and enthusiasm through a series of programme at the refinery complex today. The day’s proceedings began with a floral tribute to late Hem Baruah, eminent litterateur, parliamentarian and the pioneer whose efforts lead to the birth of the Refinery.

This was followed by a function at the Guwahati Refinery plant canteen which was attended by a large gathering of employees. Paban Kumar Barthakur, Principal Secretary, Sate Education and Urban Development Department, attended the function as the Chief Guest.

In his speech, Barthakur appreciated the collective efforts of the employees of Guwahati Refinery in contributing to its achievements for the past 54 years. Praising the cohesion and the team spirit of the employees, Barthakur evinced trust that the employees would be able to overcome all challenges that the Refinery faced in today’s environment.  

He also admired the concern of the Guwahati Refinery authorities in securing safety to all its employees and contractual workers along with increasing productivity of the refinery. A lyricist and a poet by interest, Barthakur also recited a poem from his book of poems on the occasion.

Executive Director Jogen Barpujari, while extending his New Year wishes to the employees and assembled guests, spoke on the performance so far in the year that went by as well as the new ventures taken up by the organization in the areas of petrochemical business, alterte energy etc.

Barpujari also spoke on emerging challenges for the refinery and urged all to strive hard to focus on the goals and achieve them while keeping safety considerations in mind at all times. The programme began with the foundation day pledge. The occasion was also utilized to award the best suggestors of the refinery for the year 2014-15, which were handed over by the chief guest. The book “The Professiol” by Subroto Bagchi was also presented to the new entrants to the Indian Oil Family, both executives as well as Non-executives.
