Serious crimil charges made against senior AASU leaders

MANGALDAI, June 27:  Police has registered a case at Sadar Police Station here against three senior office bearers of AASU, including an assistant general secretary of its central committee with serious crimil charges of kidpping, physical torture, extortion and life threat to a senior bank official.

On the basis of the written complaint received from Pratul Saikia (59), Branch Mager of Pathorighat Branch of Asom Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB), the police registered the case (Mangaldai PS case no. 549/2015 under section 341/294/325/365/342/387/379 and 134 IPC and started investigation which reportedly compelled all the three student leaders to go underground. A press conference called on Saturday reportedly by assistant general secretary, AASU central committee, Manimoy Goswami, here at the office of AASU, Darrang District unit, was hurriedly called off without any justified reason.

Pratul Saikia, a resident of ward no-7 here on June 19 filed an written complaint before the Superintendent of Police, Darrang, Vivek Raj Singh stating that on the previous evening when he was coming back home from duty on his two wheeler, a group of 7-8 youths in a Tata Sumo intercepted him near Arjuntal Chowk near Dahi on the MPK PWD road and forced him to go back to his bank to fulfil some work of Pabitra Deka, owner of the Customer Service Point (CSP) of Borichowka (near Pathorighat) area of the bank. But when he refused, the youths forcefully brought him to the head office of AASU, Darrang unit here. The bank officer was then allegedly physically tortured by the AASU leaders present including assistant general secretary, AASU Central Committee, Manimoy Goswami, officiating general secretary of Darrang district unit of AASU, Mukut Bordoloi and Education Secretary, AASU, Darrang unit, Pabitra Deka. The AASU leaders allegedly also demanded Rs 1 lakh and issued life threat if he failed to give the money. Moreover, the students leaders allegedly looted an amount of Rs 5,000 from the bank official. The critically injured bank official has been undergoing treatment in the Nephrology Department of GMCH.

Meanwhile, when asked over phone about the charge, Manimoy Goswami, while refuting the allegation, alleged that as the bank official had ill treated him, one of his junior office bearers could not resist himself from beating the bank official.
