Shillong, April 6: The Meghalya Home Minister James K Sangma conceded that the government is finding difficulties in choosing the next Director General of Police(DGP), even as sources indicated that the present incumbent will be given an extension . The problem crop up because the State Security Commission (SSC) is short of the full-fledged members so far. The High Court has not deputed the two members to the panel that would choose from amongst the four eligible officers to the coveted post. Asked on this, the Home Minister said, “Yes, there are difficulties and we are already looking at every possibility,” even as he added that the matter is being taken care of. The Sentinel first carried the story of the SSC has had no sitting even when the present DGP is on the verge of retirement. The grape vines have it that the present DGP will get an extension. On this aspect, the Home Minister said, “I will not deny or confirm.”  The present DGP has received the accolades of wiping out the proscribed GNLA in Garo Hills.
