Service of two rural  development  employees terminated

MANGALDAI, May 9: The Panchayat and Rural Development Department of Assam vide a notification issued on May 7, has terminated the service of one Gram Rojgar Sahayak (GRS) and one Accredited Engineer (AE) on the charge of criminal misappropriation, gross negligence and gross indiscipline.

 The terminated employees are Rakesh Sarma, Accredited Engineer, and Tapan Barua, Gram Rojgar Sahayak, both of Ramhari Gaon Panchayat under Pacchim Mangaldai Development Block in Darrang. The termination order has been issued by the Commissioner of Panchayat and Rural Development Department on the basis of the report submitted by the Darrang Deputy Commissioner and the Project Director of Darrang DRDA. Both the terminated employees were found to have indulged in misappropriation of government fund in the implementation of the scheme under MGNREGA, namely 'Earthen bundh from Moja Khejurtol to Noanadi Mathawri'.

 The Panchayat and Rural development department has also asked the Darrang Deputy Commissioner to lodge an FIR against both the terminated employees. On the other hand, the Panchayat and Rural Development department is also initiating departmental disciplinary action against the Block Development Officer and Junior engineer of Pacchim Mangaldai Development Block and the secretary of Ramhari Gaon Panchayat.

 On March 14, a nine-year girl died as an RCC display board bearing the name of the MGNREGA scheme 'Earthen bundh from Moja Khejurtol to Noanadi Mathawri' fell upon her while she was playing. It has been alleged that the RCC display board was constructed without using iron rod and required cement in it and all the villagers had alleged that the poor quality of work led to the RCC display board falling on the girl.
