Setting up of BSF camp: HYC seeks Syiem’s intervention

SHILLONG, June 1: A delegation of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) West Khasi Hills district on Thursday sough the intervention of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM P N Syiem on issue pertaining to the setting up of a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in the district.

Last month, another NGO from the district, the Khasi Student Union (KSU) had also expressed their opposition in setting up the BSF camp in the district.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the KHADC Chief, Wanteibok Lyngdoh general secretary HYC WKH, said, “We have urged the CEM not to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the intention of the BSF in setting up a camp in the district.”

The HYC leader informed that the KHADC Chief had assured them that a letter from the District Council will soon be sent to all the Syiem (Chief) falling under West Khasi Hills to direct village headmen not to issue NOC to the proposed BSF camp in the district.
