Seuj Konwar to be remembered on 17th death anniversary

SIVASAGAR, June 8: The 17th death anniversary of one of Assam’s greatest scholars, Seuj Konwar  Parag Chaliha will be held on June 21 in Sivasagar.

Parag Chaliha died on June 21, 1999. Chaliha, for his rare persolity of multifaceted ture and undaunted courage, was popularly known as the ‘Seuj Konwar’ - the evergreen youth. This great writer, poet, orator, litterateur, lyricist, dramatist, composer, sportsman and leader of the masses, was one of the prominent scholars who pioneered the foundation of Modern Assam.

A series of ceremonies have been organized by Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha Smriti Rakhya Samiti in collaboration with Sibsagar tya Samaj at tya Mandir. Chaliha’s family members, students, members of Sibsagar tya Samaj and various other organizations founded by him will pay floral tributes at Sibasagar tya Mandir.

To mark the occasion, essay and art competitions will be organized among students. Essay competition will be held in two categories. Category-A will be held for class IX-class X on the topic ‘Contribution of Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha on the educatiol and cultural fields of Assam’ within 2000 words, while category-B for the students of degree and post-graduate on the topic ‘Contribution of Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha on the social and political field of Assam’ within 3,000 words. The essay competition will be held in All-Assam basis and interested participants should sent the essays by June 17 to Sibasagar tya Samaj, Sibsagar tya Mandir, Arunudoi Path, Sivasagar, Pin-785640 , informed the organizing committee.
