SHILLONG, Dec 16: The KSU South West Khasi Hills including seven families has allege that the Sordar of Umdohlun village has misused his power by depriving them of their rights to get Public Distribution System (PDS), tiol Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NERGS) besides other schemes since 2013.

“These seven families have been ostracized from the village of Umdohlun by the Sordar without any proper reason and there was not even a single clarification from the Sordar as to why they are being ostracized,” Forwardman Nongrem general secretary KSU SWKH told newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said that the seven families have met the Nobosohphoh Syiemship regarding the matter and the Syiem had directed the Dorbar shnong of Umdohlun to re-include them into the village system but the Sordar of Umdohlun village rejected the directive of the Syiem.

“These families are currently facing a lot of problems especially since they are not even able to avail the various developmental schemes which is their right like the PDS, NERGS and besides that the Sordar is also not issuing any certificates to them,” he said.

B Nonglang a resident affected by the ostracization by the Sordar said, “It has become very difficult now that no certificates are being issued to us by the Sordar more so when it comes to applying birth certificate, scholarship or even if we want to open a bank account.”

According to him, the Sordar ostracized the seven families because of a land dispute case which was registered at the District Council court since 1995.

The KSU SWKH has demanded that the district administration of SWKHD should immediately investigate the matter and to punish those people involved in depriving the seven families of their rights.
