Seven hardcore NDFB cadres held on R–Day eve

Guwahati, January 25: As security arrangements across the State in view of the Republic Day celebrations, seven activists of the NDFB(S) have been apprehended.

In yet another blow to the terrorist outfit blamed for the December 23 massacre, five of its cadres were apprehended in a joint operation by troops of Red Horns Division and Police from Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district. The operation was conducted on a specific intelligence provided by Gajraj Corps military intelligence unit. The apprehended includes Daneshwar Basumatary alias B Dapung alias Ustad who is a 37th batch trained cadre of NDFB(S).  Two pistols, three hand gredes and other war like stores were recovered during the operation.

The troops of Red Horns Division also apprehended an important NDFB(S) cadre Durga Boro from Mas reserve forest of Chirang district. A lot of incrimiting documents pertaining to instruction on tax collection and extortion, appointment list and details of weapons and ammunition with respect to NDFB(S) were recovered during the operation.

In another joint operation, two linkman of NDFB(S) were also apprehended based on intelligence provided by Gajraj Corps military intelligence unit, by the troops of Red Horn Division and Assam Police at Darrangamela in Tamulpur. The me of the apprehended terrorists: Laoga Basumatary and Girish Soren. Two gredes, eight Detotors with fuse wires were recovered from the individuals.

“It is important to mention that the synergy in operations and sharing of Intelligence amongst the agencies of the Unified Command – the Army, Assam Police and other paramilitary forces has dealt a severe blow on the nefarious designs of the terrorist organizations active in the region. This is a prime example of highly coordited and synergised operations conducted by the Unified Command,” said Defence PRO Lt Col Suneet Newton.
