Seven star Arup puts Assam in command

Ranji tie vs Saurashtra

By our Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 6: A solid performance with the ball by medium pacer Arup Das put Assam in good position against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy tie in Kolkata today. Arup picked up 7-39 which destroyed Saurasthra’s first innings as the side were struggling at 121-9 in their first innings at stumps on day II.

The first day of the game was washed out because of rain and the match couldn’t start on time on second day also because of poor ground condition. Assam captain K Arun Karthick, who is leading the side for the first time this season, didn’t hesitate to invite opponent captain to bat after he won the toss. Arup quickly removed opener A Barot(0) and Amitoze Singh within the first three ball of the innings. Barot returned on the very first ball of the innings giving a catch to Arun Karthick. On the other hand Arup picked up Amitoze, who was leg before wicket, on the third ball of the same over. The double blows broke the backbone of Saurashtra’s innings and they were not able to make a comeback. One time they were struggling at 8-69 but 38 runs partnership in the ninth wicket between Udkat (31no) and D Jadeja (22) gave little relief to Saurashtra. Arup finished the day 7-39 while remaining two wickets were claimed by Krish Das (2-31) .
