Several Parties Hold Two-Day Meeting In Manipur to discuss  Manipur University and Naga Peace Talk issues

Imphal, July 24: On the ongoing Naga peace talk and Manipur University Crisis, except Congress party, altogether 21 political parties came together and holds a special meeting on Sunday. It has been reported that the parties decided that a special assembly session would be convened in the framework agreement signed by BJP-led NDA Government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN- Isak Muivah).

On the contrary, regarding the Manipur University Crisis, the all-party meeting chaired by State’s CM Biren Singh discussed the present crisis situation and resolved to appoint a Pro- Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University. Also, he has asked the incumbent VC to go on leave pending an investigation by the fact-finding committee. The fact-finding committee will be urged to initiate and conclude its proceedings within the stipulated time.

On May 30, 2018, the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) launched a protest against the VC Aditya Prasad Pandey as he was allegedly involved in mismanagement of altogether 17 charges leveled against him on the University’s administrative and financial grounds.

In addition, in the four-hour-long meeting, the other related issues that were discussed were the surrounding controversy over Indo- Myanmar border pillar No 81 well inside Manipur territory and the framework agreement signed with NSCN-IM. It is reported that a team from the center and other stakeholders have resolved to visit the disputed site for spot verification on July 24 of this month.
