Several villages in Golaghat hit by floods

FROM A CORRESPONDENT
Golaghat, July 5: Like the  other districts, Golaghat has also been badly affected by fresh floods. Continuous and heavy downpour in the district for the past couple of days and water coming down from neighbouring hill state galand has raised the water level of Dhansiri, Kakadunga, Ghiladhari and Mokrung rivers. As a result, more than 20 villages are under flood. In the greater Athkheliya region located in the eastern part of the district, Pulijaitoni, Bosa Bharaluwa and Kharjan along with several other villages have been badly hit by flash floods. Paddy fields, crops, houses and school buildings are all now under water. Also lack of food for the cattle has created another problem. Villagers have to spent sleepless nights without any shelter. Flood-hit people raised allegations of not getting any relief from the authorities concerned. However, Golaghat district administration has taken measures to provide relief materials to the flood-hit areas. On the other hand, erosion near Dhansiri river has posed threat to the nearby villages.
